In 1987, the George Westinghouse Museum opened in the former general office building of Westinghouse Air Brake Company in Wilmerding, Pa.

Established by former Westinghouse employees and other volunteers, the museum’s collection consisted of archival material and artifacts pertaining to George Westinghouse and the companies he founded.

The collection included records of Westinghouse Electric Corporation and Westinghouse Air Brake Company, biographical materials about George Westinghouse and his family, and records pertaining to the Wilmerding, Pennsylvania area.

The museum in Wilmerding closed in 2007, and its records, archival materials, and artifacts were donated to the Heinz History Center and its Detre Library & Archives.

The Detre collection consists of correspondence, blueprints and drawings, publications, ledgers, parts catalogs, advertisement materials, patent documents, research and development materials, and audiovisual materials such as photographs, films, audio reels and phonograph records.

Although much of the collection is available only by request, much of it has been digitized and made available online. Click the photo below to access the Detre Archives.
